Just thought I'd update you on recent happenings in the world of cheeses on our new-look-all-singing-all-skanking website. (Nice work Dave!)
Firstly, we had a result in the Free Press/Higher Rhythm Demo Showdown competition saga which lead to us congregating in a cafe in Donny one post-snowy morning in February for an interview and tea drinking session followed by photo-shoot - the results of which, appeared in the Doncaster Free Press (12/03/09). We're also hoping to do some recording at Higher Rhythm in a month or so and we're going to be contibuting a track to a compilation they're putting together. We also got offered a couple of gigs but unfortunately, one, we were unable to do and the other was one of two gigs to be cancelled on us recently.
In other news, we have a couple of new songs in the pipeline but it is a very narrow pipeline so they might take a while to emerge at the other end - irritable song syndrome. We still haven't managed to introduce 'Set The Definition' into the set but keep coming to see us live and you might just witness its premiere in the not too distant...
 Enough for now. Keep skanking!

But that means we’re into our 4th calendar year already – how time flies.

What does 2009 hold in store for the cheeses then, you may (or may not) be wondering? Well, first up, we’ll be knocking the two new songs, which we premiered at The Eagle last month, into shape. Not that there’s a great deal wrong with their current shape – but new songs have a tendency to stand out as such. Also, we’ll be working on our latest tune – ‘Set The Definition’ – which didn’t quite make it in time for The Eagle but will unquestionably feature when we play in Bradford next month.

Speaking of The Eagle gig – a few days later I was asked if we were changing our style and moving away from the ska thing. Well, that certainly wasn’t the intention – we must have really been rocking that night! I’ll try and make a conscious effort to get back to the skank.

In the long-running-saga-section - Joe and Dave have been doing their utmost to resolve the Free Press/Higher Rhythm Demo Showdown phantom prize issue. We were notified last summer that we had won the competition which according to the competition ad meant we would “get a double feature in the newspaper, get to play at some key musical events, receive professional sponsorship and work with a producer / engineer to record a professional collection of your music.” Not to mention the “photo shoot and guaranteed radio features” which we would receive just for being monthly winners.

At the point of writing this, the only prize which has been pro-actively awarded to us is one gig - at Doncaster Live. Apparently, we also got some radio play but unfortunately, we were only told this recently – some time after it was broadcast - which is a bit like winning last year’s calendar. As a result of the recent Herzberg/Higher Rhythm e-mail tennis, we’ve also been offered the chance to have the new demo (see long-running-saga-section part 2 below) mastered by Steven Mundin at Higher Rhythm studio. The latest from Doncaster Free Press on their part in the incredible shrinking prize fiasco is.................................................nothing.
We are, as the song says, waiting.

Briefly, in part 2 of the long-running-saga-section. Our 2nd demo is long since recorded but due to technical problems is still unavailable to the masses – that’s you. That is, of course, except for ‘Do It Yourself’ which you can skank along to until your heart is content by visiting our myspace page. We’ll keep you informed of any major developments – watch this space.

So there you go. You now know as much as I do – or thereabouts.

 All the best for 2009

In case you hadn't heard already, the cheeses are back on the road again, albeit briefly, for two gigs, and both local to the cheesy fellows - how handy!

Should be a blast! I'm especially looking forward to the Eagle gig, 'cos we're planning to air some new material. Sounds skankin' too!
